The best copy trade settings for pump.fun
There is no single best set of copy trade settings, but there is a sound order: cap what one trade can cost you, filter the trades you do not want, guard your entry price, then decide your exits. Everything below uses copypump's real options and defaults, as starting points, not advice.
The best copy trade settings are the ones that decide, before the first trade, how much a single copy can cost you. For pump.fun wallets that means a fixed size you can lose in full, a market cap floor, max chase on, a stop loss and exits mirrored with the trader. Below is every copypump setting in the order that matters, with two starter profiles. They are starting points, not recommendations for your money.
Where copy trading settings live
copypump keeps your rules in two places: the copy flow sets the rules for one trader, and /settings holds the rules for your whole account. That split is useful. You can copy a steady wallet at one size and a wild one at another, while your account-wide guards (slippage, cooldown, max positions) protect everything at once.
The copy flow has about a dozen questions and nothing pre-selected. The last screen lists every answer, the impact guard and the fee before you tap 🟢 start copying. You can then 💾 save the setup, and your next copy offers to start from it.
Sizing: the setting that matters most
Your size decides what one bad trade costs, so pick it first. Sizes are in US dollars, spent from your USDC balance, and set per trader.
- Fixed amount. Options $20, $50, $100, or custom from $3 with no ceiling. The same amount on every copied buy, whatever the trader spends. A fixed amount is never trimmed by max per trade.
- Percentage of the trader. Options 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, or custom 1 to 100%. They buy $400, at 10% you buy $40. A copy that would come out under $2 is placed at $2.
- Max per trade. Percentage mode only. Options $50, $100, $250, or custom from $3. A hard ceiling on any single copy: at 2%, a $30,000 buy would be $600 without it.
Fixed is the calmer choice. A percentage imports the trader's risk appetite into your account, which is why the cap exists. How much to put in overall is covered in how much to start copytrading with.
Entry filters: which buys you copy
Entry filters decide which of the trader's buys become yours. They never block an exit on a token you hold.
- Minimum trader trade. Options $50, $250, $1,000, custom, or no filter. Small buys are often probes, not conviction. Set it too high and a copy can stay quiet for days.
- Market cap band. Minimum $100k, $500k, $1m, custom or no filter. Maximum $1m, $5m, $10m, custom or no filter. Tiny caps run harder and rug harder.
- First buys only, or all buys. First buys only copies the trader's very first entry into a token and skips their adds.
Price guards: max chase, max impact and slippage
Price guards protect your entry: max chase caps how far past the trader's entry you will buy, max impact caps how much your own order moves the pool, and slippage decides whether the trade fills at all.
- Max chase. Options 10%, 25%, 50%, custom 1 to 200%, or off. Tight means more skipped copies on fast movers. Loose means you sometimes buy the candle they created.
- Max impact. Options 1%, 3%, 5%, 10%, custom, or off. Default off. On, you stop paying for illiquidity and miss some of the smallest launches.
- Slippage. Options Auto, 2%, 5%, 10%, 15%. Default Auto, which starts at 30% and widens if the price keeps running, so the trade goes through.
The trap is using slippage to control price. A tight fixed slippage turns fast copies into failed transactions. Leave slippage on Auto and let max chase cap your entry. More in copy trading slippage and delay.
Repeat rules: cooldown, re-buys and max positions
Repeat rules stop you from piling into the same coin or spreading too thin. All of these sit in /settings except the last, which is in the copy flow.
- Cooldown. Options 30m, 1h, 4h, off. Default 1 hour. A repeat buy of a token you hold inside the window is skipped. Selling re-allows it straight away.
- No re-buy after a sell. Default on, 24 hours. Re-entering a coin one trader just exited, behind another, is a fast way to lose twice on the same token.
- Max positions. Options 3, 5, 10, off. Default off. No new tokens past the count; adding to one you hold is always allowed.
- Same coin, two traders. First buy wins, or buy again. Default buy again.
Exits: mirror, take profit, stop loss
Exits decide more of the outcome than entries, and copypump copies the trader's sells by default. On top, you can add your own exits.
- Exit style. Mirror (default): they sell 30% of their bag, 30% of yours is sold. All at once: any sell of theirs closes your whole position.
- Take profit. Up to 3 rungs. Levels +50%, +100%, +300%, +500%, +1,000%, +2,000%, +5,000%, custom or off; sell 25%, 50%, 75% or all at each.
- Stop loss. Options -25%, -50%, -80%, custom, or off. Down this much from your entry, copypump sells what is left.
- The stop after a take profit. Breakeven (default) moves the stop on the rest up to your entry once a rung fires. Keep my stop leaves it where it was.
- When the trader sells at a loss. Sell with them (default), or hold when I'm down, which copies a sell only when you are in profit and leaves the rest to your stop loss.
The trade-offs of a stop on memecoins are in the pump.fun stop loss.
Best copy trade settings: two starter profiles
A conservative profile trades less and caps each loss harder; an aggressive one copies more and accepts worse fills. Both use only real copypump options. The default column is what ↺ reset defaults sets, where it sets something.

How to tune your settings after a week
Tune from evidence, not from one trade. Your skip messages tell you which filter is doing the work: if max chase skips almost everything, the wallet is faster than your fills and loosening it only buys you worse candles. /copies shows realised and open PnL per trader, and 🧾 trade history in /portfolio shows the market cap at entry and exit of every closed position. If most losers were tiny caps, raise the band floor. If a copy is silent for days, lower the minimum trader trade. If the wallet itself is the problem, no setting fixes it: go back to choosing a better wallet.
Frequently asked
What are the best copy trade settings for pump.fun?
A sensible starting point is a fixed size you can lose in full, a market cap floor, max chase on, a stop loss, and exits mirrored with the trader. Tune from there using your skip messages and per-trader PnL in /copies. None of it guarantees a profit.
What are copypump's default settings?
Reset defaults in /settings puts the guards at: fixed $50, minimum trade $20, max per trade $250, max impact off, slippage auto, cooldown 1 hour, max chase 25% and exit style mirror, with take profit and stop loss cleared.
Should I copy a fixed amount or a percentage of the trader?
Fixed is easier to reason about: the same amount on every copied buy, from $3 with no ceiling. A percentage scales with the trader's conviction, so in copypump percentage mode comes with a max per trade to cap the trade where they go big.
What slippage should I use for copy trading?
copypump's default is Auto, which starts at 30% and widens if the price keeps running so the trade goes through. Slippage decides whether a trade fills; max chase is the setting that caps how far past the trader's entry you will buy.
Are the best GMGN copy trade settings the same as copypump's?
The ideas carry over (size, filters, slippage, take profit and stop loss), but option names and defaults differ between tools. Use each tool's own documentation for its exact settings.
