Is pump.fun legit?

pump.fun is a real, working platform: it launches Solana memecoins on a bonding curve and runs its own exchange, PumpSwap. Whether it is safe is a different question, because the platform working as described and the coins on it holding value are two separate things.

Is pump.fun legit? Yes, in the sense that it is a real platform that does what it says: anyone can launch a Solana memecoin in a few clicks, it trades from the first second, and every trade is public on-chain. No, if "legit" means your money is safe there. Most coins launched on pump.fun lose nearly all their value, and the platform has its own legal and security history worth knowing.

This is an honest pump.fun review from people who build on its public data. copypump is independent: not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by pump.fun.

What pump.fun is, as of 2026

pump.fun is a Solana launchpad for memecoins that launched in January 2024. Its pieces have grown over time:

  • The bonding curve. A new coin trades against a formula rather than a pool, with no presale and no liquidity to seed. Mint authority is set to null at creation, so no more tokens can be printed.
  • PumpSwap. Since 20 March 2025, coins that fill their curve graduate to PumpSwap, pump.fun's own exchange, instead of Raydium. pump.fun says the pool's liquidity tokens are burned at migration, so the dev cannot remove the liquidity.
  • Creator fees. Since May 2025, coin creators earn a share of trading fees on their coin. The current split is on pump.fun's fee page and depends on the coin's market cap.
  • The PUMP token. pump.fun sold its own token in a public sale in July 2025, which sold out in about 12 minutes, raising $500 million at $0.004 per token.
  • Kolscan. In July 2025 pump.fun acquired Kolscan, a wallet tracker with a trader PnL leaderboard.
  • The leaderboard. A public PnL ranking of wallets trading on it, over daily, weekly and monthly windows.

The mechanics are explained in how pump.fun works and PumpSwap explained.

Is pump.fun safe? Separate the platform from the coins

The platform and the coins on it are two different risks, and most bad pump.fun reviews blur them. A table helps:

The platformThe coins on it
What it isSoftware that creates coins and runs tradesTokens launched by anyone, for any reason
Does it work as described?Yes, trades settle on-chain and anyone can verify themThey do whatever their holders do
Main riskSecurity incidents, legal and regulatory actionGoing to zero, dumps by early holders
What protects youKeeping only trading money on itPosition size, holder checks, a stop

The platform question is "will my trades execute and my funds be where I left them". The coin question is "will this token be worth anything tomorrow". The first usually gets a yes. The second usually gets a no.

pump.fun's track record: incidents, regulators and lawsuits

pump.fun has operated for more than two and a half years, and its record includes a security exploit, a country it left after a regulator's warning, and a major lawsuit. Stated as reported:

  • May 2024 exploit. A former employee used privileged access and flash loans to take about $1.9 million from bonding curve contracts. pump.fun said its contracts were safe and that affected users would receive the liquidity they had. A former employee was later arrested and charged in the UK.
  • UK exit, December 2024. After the UK's Financial Conduct Authority warned that pump.fun may be offering financial services without permission, pump.fun changed its terms to exclude UK users.
  • US class action. A class action filed in January 2025 in the Southern District of New York (Aguilar v. Baton Corporation) alleges that pump.fun sold unregistered securities. The complaint was later amended to add racketeering claims and new defendants. These are allegations, not findings, and the case is pending.

None of this means the site will not execute your trade. It does mean that access can change by country, and that the rules around platforms like this one are unsettled. See is copy trading legal? for the general picture.

Why most pump.fun coins go to zero

Most pump.fun coins go to zero because anyone can launch one for free, nearly all of them never find buyers, and the ones that do often get sold into by their earliest holders. The numbers point the same way:

  • Few graduate. Dune data reported by Cointelegraph put the weekly graduation rate below 1% for several weeks in early 2025, with a best week of about 1.67% in November 2024.
  • Many dump. A May 2025 Solidus Labs report classified 98.6% of pump.fun tokens as rug pulls or pump-and-dumps. pump.fun disputed it, saying most memecoins "are worth little in the long run. That's precisely the point."

The classic rug (pulling the pool) is blocked on standard coins. The dump is not. Before buying anything there, read how to avoid rug pulls on pump.fun and pump.fun bundles and cabals.

What pump.fun costs you

pump.fun charges a fee on every trade, both on the bonding curve and on PumpSwap, and part of it goes to the coin's creator. The split changes with the coin's market cap after graduation, and it has changed several times, so read pump.fun's current fee page rather than any number quoted elsewhere. Our breakdown of how fees stack up is in pump.fun fees explained.

The part that is genuinely useful: public wallets

The most useful thing pump.fun offers most traders is not a coin. It is transparency. Every trade is on-chain, and the leaderboard shows which wallets are actually taking profit over a day, a week or a month. That is the data copypump is built on: it lets you copy wallets from the public leaderboard, or any Solana wallet with /find, buys and sells, at your size, from Telegram.

Copying does not make pump.fun safer. It changes who decides the entries and exits. The wallets you copy lose trades too, and your fill lands after theirs. See which pump.fun traders are worth copying.

Is pump.fun legit? The verdict

pump.fun is a legitimate, functioning platform with a real incident, regulatory and legal history. The coins on it are mostly not investments in any normal sense: they are short-lived, thinly held and frequently dumped. Use it, if you use it, with money you have already written off, and judge each coin, not the platform, before you buy.

High risk, full stop. Memecoins can go to zero in minutes. Nothing on this page is financial, legal or tax advice, and nothing about pump.fun, copypump or any wallet you copy predicts the next trade.

Frequently asked

Is pump.fun legit?

pump.fun is a real platform that has operated since January 2024: coins launch on a bonding curve, graduate to its own exchange PumpSwap, and trades settle on-chain on Solana. That does not make the coins on it good investments. Most lose nearly all their value.

Is pump.fun safe?

The platform has a mixed record: a May 2024 exploit by a former employee, after which pump.fun said users would be made whole, a UK exit after a regulator warning, and a pending class action in New York. The bigger risk for most users is the coins themselves, which are highly volatile and often dumped by early holders.

Is pump.fun a scam?

pump.fun itself does what it says: it lets anyone create and trade a coin, and charges a fee on trades. Many coins launched on it behave like pump-and-dumps, which a lawsuit and a Solidus Labs report both point to, and which pump.fun disputes. Separate the platform from the coins.

What do people on Reddit say about whether pump.fun is legit?

Threads asking whether pump.fun is legit usually mix two questions: whether the site works and pays out, and whether you can make money on it. The first is about the platform, the second about the coins, and they have very different answers.

Is copypump part of pump.fun?

No. copypump is an independent Telegram bot that reads the public pump.fun leaderboard and on-chain data. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by pump.fun, and the traders listed have not endorsed it.
