Why a copy trade was skipped
Before you assume something broke, check whether something worked. Most copies that do not happen were stopped on purpose, by a rule you set or a limit that protects your price.
The wallet you copy made a trade. Your chat shows nothing, or a message that says skipped. Before assuming something is broken, work out which layer stopped the copy. Most of the time it is a rule you set, doing exactly what you asked.
The two-minute triage
- Did you get a "skipped" message? Read the reason. It is usually one of your settings.
- Is your balance enough for your size per trade? If not, new buys are skipped.
- Did the price run? A max chase or max impact limit may have refused a bad price.
- Was it really the wallet's trade? A transfer into the wallet is not a buy.
Layer 1: your own rules
These are the most common reasons, with the wording you will see in the bot:
| What the message says | What it means |
|---|---|
| not their first buy | You chose first buys only, and the wallet was adding to a coin it already held. |
| market cap is under your minimum / over your maximum | The coin was outside the market cap range you set. |
| trade size is under your minimum | The wallet's trade was smaller than the minimum trader size you set. |
| bought less than N min ago | Cooldown: you already bought this coin recently. |
| you're at your max of N open positions | No new coins are opened until one closes. |
| you sold it in the last 24h | By default, copypump does not buy back a coin one of your wallets just exited. |
| you already hold it via another trader | First buy wins: the coin is already open through a different wallet. |
None of these are errors. If a rule skips trades you wanted, change it in the copy settings for that wallet.
Layer 2: your balance and size
- Not enough balance. If your balance cannot cover the copy, it is skipped. Top up, or lower your size.
- Too small to be worth it. A copy so small that the fee would eat it is skipped.
- Trimmed, not skipped. If many copies fire on the same signal, a safety cap can reduce the size. The fill message says so.
Layer 3: the price
- Max chase. The price had already run past the limit you set, so the copy did not buy.
- Max impact. Your fill would have moved the price past your limit, usually on a thin pool.
- Too late. A buy signal that could not be acted on quickly enough is not bought. Buying minutes after the wallet is not copying.
- Slippage. The trade was attempted but the price moved past your tolerance. See why a pump.fun trade fails.
Layer 4: it was not a trade
Wallets receive tokens they did not buy: airdrops, gifts, transfers between a trader's own wallets. None of those is a trade, and none of them should be copied. copypump checks that a signal is a real trade by the wallet before copying it.
The thing to remember
Your buy filters never block a sell. If you hold a coin because you copied a wallet, you follow that wallet out, proportionally, whatever your buy rules say. The one exception is an option you choose yourself: holding while your position is losing. If that is on, you get a held message instead of a sell, and your stop loss is your net.
If nothing arrives at all
If you see no copies and no messages for a long time, check the simple things: is copying paused? Is the wallet still active? Some wallets go quiet for days. Look it up on an explorer to see its latest trade. Then check your settings again, especially first buys only and market cap limits, which can be stricter than they sound.
Frequently asked
The wallet bought a coin but I did not. Why?
Most often one of your settings filtered it out: first buys only, a market cap limit, max open positions, a cooldown, a minimum trade size, or a coin you recently sold. copypump usually sends a skipped message with the reason.
Are sells ever skipped?
Your buy filters never block a sell. If you hold a coin because you copied a wallet, you follow that wallet out. The exception is if you turned on the option to hold while your position is losing, in which case you get a held message instead.
Why did I sell only part of my position?
Because the wallet sold only part of its own. copypump copies sells proportionally: if the wallet sells 30% of its bag, you sell 30% of yours.
What if I hold the same coin through two wallets?
A copied sell is linked to the wallet whose buy opened your position. If another wallet you copy sells the same coin, your position stays, unless you opened it by copying that wallet.
