Copy trade not working?
A copy trade that does not fire is almost always one of three things: no money behind it, a filter that did its job, or a price or network problem at the moment of the fill. Most bots, copypump included, tell you which one if you know where to look.
If your copy trade is not working, start with one question: was the trade skipped, did it fail, or was it never seen? Those are three different problems with three different fixes, on copypump and on every other Solana copy bot. Most of the time the answer is a rule you set, doing exactly what you asked.
Skipped, failed or unseen: three different problems
A copy trade that did not happen was either stopped by a rule before it was sent, sent and rejected on-chain, or never detected at all. Knowing which one saves you from changing the wrong setting.
| What happened | Typical cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Skipped | A filter or guard matched: size, market cap, first buys, cooldown, max positions, max chase, balance | The bot's skip message, then your settings |
| Failed | Price moved past slippage, network congestion, the coin migrated, not enough funds for the transaction | The failure message, then retry or let it go |
| Never seen | The wallet traded in a way the bot cannot read, or the signal arrived too late to act on | The wallet's trades on an explorer |
Why a copy trade does not fire on any Solana bot
Every copy trading bot on Solana misses trades for the same handful of reasons, because they all face the same chain and the same thin memecoin pools.
- No funds behind it. The single most common reason. A copy needs your balance to cover your size. Deposit enough for several trades, not one.
- Your filters. Minimum trade size, market cap limits, first buys only, blacklists. They are supposed to skip trades. If they skip everything, they are too tight.
- A late signal. A buy detected too long after it happened is usually not worth copying, and good bots refuse it.
- The price ran. A max chase style guard skips a buy when the price is already far past the trader's entry.
- Slippage. The transaction was sent, but the price moved further than your tolerance before it landed, so it did not fill. See why a pump.fun trade fails.
- Cooldown and repeat rules. A second buy of the same coin inside a cooldown window is skipped by design.
- The network. When Solana is congested, transactions can time out or fail. Retrying later often works.
- A trade the bot cannot copy. Some wallets trade through routes or programs a bot does not decode, so nothing is detected.
GMGN copy trade failed, Trojan copy trade not working: what their docs say
GMGN and Trojan both document why a copy trade can fail, and their lists match the universal reasons above. What follows is from their own documentation at the time of writing (September 2026). Check their current docs, since settings and behaviour change.
- GMGN. Its copy trade guide lists slippage tolerance, low SOL balance, network congestion, timeouts and low priority fees as common failure causes. It retries a failed buy or sell 1 to 3 times depending on the error, and if 3 consecutive copy transactions fail, it pauses the copy task automatically and sends a reminder. You have to restart it yourself, once the balance is sufficient. So a GMGN copy that stopped buying may simply be paused.
- Trojan. Its copy trading docs name three kinds of trades that cannot be copied: wallets that use custom programs, pools Trojan does not support, and snipers buying in the first seconds of a launch, where Trojan warns you land several blocks behind and become their exit liquidity. Its settings also include slippage, priority fee, a market cap range and a minimum liquidity filter, any of which can stop a copy.
Both tools are broader trading platforms than copypump, with manual trading and more knobs. That breadth is useful, and it also means more settings that can quietly block a copy.
copypump copy trade not working: the checklist
In copypump, the first rule that matches stops the copy, and they are checked in this order. Go down the list:
- Paused. Is ⏸ pause all on, in /settings or /copies? Paused, nothing is copied, buys or sells.
- Balance. Is there USDC on Solana behind the copy? Copying arms at the end of the copy flow, but a copy fills only once there is USDC in the wallet. Fund with /deposit.
- Minimum trader trade. Was the trader's own buy under your minimum? Set it too high and a copy can stay quiet for days.
- Market cap band. Was the token outside the band you set?
- First buys only. Was it the trader adding to a token they already held?
- No re-buy after a sell. Did the token leave your wallet in the last 24 hours?
- First buy wins. Do you already hold the coin through another trader?
- Cooldown. Did you buy that token less than your cooldown ago? The default is 1 hour.
- Max positions. Are you at your cap, and was this a new token?
- Max chase or max impact. Had the price run too far past their entry, or would your fill move the pool too much?
- Late signal. Did the buy reach copypump more than 60 seconds after it happened?
The full wording of each skip message is in why a copy trade was skipped, and every setting is explained in the docs.
Where copypump tells you why
copypump sends a message for most skips, with the reason and a way to change the setting, so the chat itself is the first place to look. Beyond that:
- Low balance alert. On by default in /settings: you get a message when a copy is skipped for lack of funds.
- Failed sells. A sell that did not go through is always reported.
- /copies. Who you copy, the size set for each, and realised and open PnL per trader: what each trader has actually done for you.
- ℹ️ what is what? In /settings, it explains each term inside the bot.
No message after a trade you saw usually means one of your rules did its job.
When a sell was not copied
A sell that did not copy is usually a rule about who owns your position, not a failure. Check these:
- Only the opener closes. Only the trader who opened your position can close it. If trader A opened your bag and trader B sells the same coin, your bag is untouched.
- Hold when I'm down. If you chose this for when the trader sells at a loss, a sell is copied only when your position is in profit at that moment. The bot tells you it held, and your stop loss is your net.
- You stopped copying. After ⏸ stop copying or 🗑 in /copies, the position stays but their future sells no longer close it.
- The token cannot be sold. When liquidity disappears, copypump retries over at least 24 hours, through more than one route. Only then is the position marked 🪫 can't be sold. The verdict is re-checked every 6 hours.
If nothing happens at all
If you see no copies and no messages for a long time, the trader may simply be quiet. Look up the wallet's latest trades on an explorer or its pump.fun profile. Then loosen the strictest filters first: minimum trader trade and first buys only are the two that most often make a copy go silent.

Frequently asked
Why is my copy trade not working?
On any Solana copy bot, the usual causes are not enough balance, a filter that excluded the trade (size, market cap, first buys, cooldown), a price guard that refused a bad fill, a signal that arrived too late, or a failed transaction on a busy network. Check the bot's message for the reason before changing anything.
Why is my copy trade bot not buying?
Most often the trade was filtered on purpose, or there was not enough balance behind the copy. In copypump, copying arms at the end of the copy flow and a copy fills only once there is USDC in the wallet, and most skips send a message with the reason.
Why did my GMGN copy trade fail?
GMGN's documentation lists slippage tolerance, low SOL balance, network congestion, timeouts and low priority fees as common causes, and says a copy task is paused automatically after 3 consecutive failed copy transactions. Check GMGN's current docs, as this can change.
Why is my Trojan copy trade not working?
Trojan's copy trading docs say some trades cannot be copied: wallets using custom programs, pools Trojan does not support, and snipers buying in the first seconds of a launch, where you land behind them. Check the target wallet's trades on an explorer before changing your settings.
Does copypump copy a buy it sees late?
No. A buy that reaches copypump more than 60 seconds after it happened is skipped as a late signal. Buying a minute after the trader is not copying their trade anymore.
Every skip comes with a reason.
copypump messages you when one of your rules stops a copy, and when a sell does not go through. Open the bot, check /copies, and you know what each trader has actually done for you.
